Trevor Staffieri, Varsity Head CoachCoach Staffieri is in his first year at Segerstrom High School. He was recruited to play baseball at Westmont College out of high school, where he suffered a career-ending injury. Following this, Coach Staffieri had the opportunity to coach the JV team at Fountain Valley High School. During his time there, he developed a love for coaching and developing strong student athletes. Because of this love, Coach Staffieri went back to school to get his teaching credential and master's degree. During his first two years, he led a last and second-to-last-place team to second-place finishes. Last season, Coach Staffieri’s team finished with a record of 24-4. In addition to coaching the baseball team, Coach Staffieri works as a substitute at Segerstrom High School. "I am excited to continue and expand the great reputation that Segerstrom baseball has in the Santa Ana community. We have a great history of winning league championships and making CIF playoffs. We are looking forward to adding more banners to our wall."
Sebastian LopezCoach Lopez was born and raised in Orange County, California, and started playing baseball at just four years old, competing in Little League, Pony, and Travel ball. He attended Foothill High School, where he played pitcher, first base, and outfield, earning three years on the varsity team. During his junior year in 2014, he pitched against the two top-seeded teams to help lead his team to the CIF Finals. That same year, he was ranked 70th in the nation and 17th in California for pitching and earned Second Team All-League honors. In 2015, he was ranked 92nd nationally and 22nd in California for pitching, was named First Team All-League, earned Crestview League MVP honors, and was selected to the Kiwanis Orange County High School All-Star Baseball Team. He went on to play one year at Cypress Community College before my career was cut short due to injury. In addition to playing, he assisted in coaching the Angels RBI Clinic from 2013 to 2015 and later coached travel ball in 2020. Coach Lopez is in his third year at Segerstrom High School
Freddy LopezFreddy Gonzales was a District Safety Officer with the Santa Ana Unified School District. He was working with Segastrom High School before retiring after 36 years with the department. He’s been coaching baseball for 40 years. He started coaching his son in Little League. He then started his high school coaching career
Trabucco HIlls: 87-88 Century High School: 89-97 Santa Ana High School: 2019-2020 Freddie has a daughter, Ashley Gonzales, and a Son Garrett Gonzales. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf and baseball on Sundays. Gary MendozaA Saddleback High School graduate of 1976, where he played baseball and basketball. Coach Mendoza is now in his 50th year of coaching youth baseball teams at various age levels. In 1980, he founded an adult baseball league associated with the National Baseball Congress (NBC), where he also managed a team for 15 years. He has prior coaching experience at Saddleback High School and is now entering his fifth year at Segerstrom High School. Gaston BecerraCoach Gaston Becerra is in his second year coaching at Segerstrom High School. A Santa Ana native, he played four years of varsity baseball at Godinez Fundamental High School, where he was a starting first baseman, third baseman, and catcher. He is currently studying Kinesiology at Fullerton College, where he continues to deepen his understanding of athletic performance and development.
Coach Becerra is passionate about building strong, disciplined student-athletes and is dedicated to motivating his players to grow, lead, and succeed both on and off the field. Mike AshcraftCoach Mike is a native of Orange County where he attended and played baseball at Orange High School. Mike has over 23 years of baseball experience including 13 years as a player and 10 as a Coach/Manager. Mike has coach/managed at all youth levels including several All-Star and Select teams. Mike's love for the game is the reason for his service as a Board Member at Santa Ana Pony Baseball along side his wife and Player Agent Valerie.
Coach Mike enjoys spending time with family doing everything baseball/softball, watching Angel's Baseball, Rams and USC Footall and camping whenever possible. Favorite candy Skittles. |
